room design: using the colors of dawn

When I go home, I have to design my bedroom. I have the second master bedroom (you can say spoiled, true life: my parents did not think I was going to get married) upstairs that doubles as a guest bedroom when I am not around. My parents house is unique in that it has little sitting areas in all the bedrooms. Nothing big just a little nook under the eves. I love this opportunity for two reasons: 1) I am not funding this little design project which actually provides me a budget 2) the nook in my room provides a little more room to a mix of modern and vintage in one bedroom without it looking confused

my parents' house the week we moved in. Daddy designed and built it himself. The upstairs windows are little nooks.

The wall color in my room is a dusty greyish purple with a Burgundy accent wall. I was trying to move away from my go-to colors of navy and pink. I adore Grey Malin's photography collections (I have one and it has yet to be framed, I will wait until I find the perfect place!) and the Prada Marfa at Dawn was the perfect color inspiration for my room.

can the texas sky get any more perfect? No, I am positive it cannot
I love the dark colors of night mixing with the brighter colors of morning; it makes for the perfect
color palette. (and keeps me away from my brights and neons!)

Ok: Here is what is in the room: A grey upholstered headboard with all white bed linens that is up against a sloping wall of the house. There is a vintage side table that is being used as a nightstand and an armchair that needs new fabric.  That's it!

So things that I am going to be looking for that is not on this page: vintage lowboy dresser and desk. I am leaning towards a secretary (which I am not saying too loud because I actually have my parents' secretary desk at my house!) so there is a place to hide the tv!

pottery barn chair: for the desk, I would love more of a traditional french provincial chair with white linen, which I occasionally spy at TJMaxx

cb2 lucite console: to put in the sitting area, It would be nice to have a place books and other guest neccessities.

prada marfa print: I think that in a small space such as a nook it can make a big impact.

bench: There is no footboard at the end of the bed so this would be a nice to have at the end of the bed to sit on while getting ready

rug: I love the purply black of this rug. I am not sure this is "the rug" , the price tag says no. I do adore the uniqueness of it all

art: 1,2,3,4,5 (clockwise starting the the top) all my etsy dreams coming true! I love mixing medias to get a more collected look. I also think the photography is a bit more modern which ties in the lucite and prada marfa print.

wall sconces: to go on either side of the bed.

caitlin wilson pillow: I can't resist. I love gold. I would love to see it in the nook

leopard print pillow: a bit of an unexpected print but has the blues that are much needed in the room

Does anyone have great stores that they like for linens?

what do you think? I would love to hear any feedback!

  2. I love the idea of using the colors of dawn to decorate. Your family's house is beautiful - I can't believe your dad designed and built it himself - how cool!
