marathon training.

pinterest

There is a little voice in the back of my head every morning whispering "why the hell did you think this was a good idea?!??!" and  another little voice saying "If Oprah can run a marathon you sure as hell can." Luckily for me determination wins out and I have been getting my butt to the gym in the morning (helped along by the Kardashians and Law&Order SVU on TV in the morning)  I was mistaken when I believed that Garmin watches came with motivation and running shoes come with speed. I also know how lucky I am to still be able to run (already fractured my hip and can no long touch past my shins) and that it is as part as my day as brushing my teeth is; so I am trying not to whine. I need a good marathon training schedule so if y'all know of any let me know!

  1. Hey Madeliene,

If your Aunt Margaret can run a marathon, you sure can. Check out Runner's world http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244-255-9215-0,00.html.

I did the training with this group called Round Rock fit == met lots of people and had people to do the drills and long runs with which made it much more fun. I think your parents did something similar didn't they.

Anyway, you're so lucky to get to run by the beach! Enjoy yourself and don't push too hard. Rest is as important as working hard. Not sure if it will make a difference, but I took Glucosamine when my joints started getting sore from all the running.

    Good luck!

  2. Thank you! I have started training a little bit but honestly I have just been lazy. I am hoping if i get a piece of paper saying "do this today" I will be so much better off.

  3. i can believe it's taken me this long to post a reply. i have used this training program, or some version of it, to train for 4 of my 5 marathons and it helped me shave 45 minutes off my original time. plus, you only run 3 days/week (rest, cross-train or strength train on the others): http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244--8257-6-1X2X3X4X5X6-7,00.html
