birchbox

pinterest

I stumbled upon an article on the beauty website birchbox in an old issue of Marie Claire. I was intrigued (mostly because it was ten bucks a month) and the fact that two Harvard grads came up with this job for a contest. As a person that has recently gotten more into make up and an avid lover of nail polish I found this website perfect.

This is how it works: Basically you pay ten bucks a month (shipping is free) to get 4-5 deluxe beauty samples in the mail. You try them out and if you fall in love with one, you can go back on the website and buy the full size product. You earn points the more you spend and work up towards free products. Your samples can be anything from lotions and skin care to perfume and make-up. The September box had lots of fun samples and many things I would like

Downside: You don't get to pick what you get in each month's box. However, you fill out a beauty questionnaire and the boxes vary depending on your answers. If you have friends that also sign up you can always switch products with them.

Upside: At least once a month you get an itch to get some kind of new product. This way you get four (and probably ones you have never thought of) and it comes straight to your door.  How about that for an after work pick-me-up?
